Baseball

As it does every year, the Baseball National Series attracts the attention of millions of Cubans. “The ball,” as we call it, has been the national sport for many years, and not surprisingly generates heated discussions in the central parks of every town on the island. For those of us with the illusion that people are preoccupied by the most burning issues of the day, it’s always a little frustrating to come across a group of men shouting and gesticulating passionately, not about how to end the country’s dual monetary system, nor how to reclaim some right they’ve been cheated out of, but only about whether some play was the right thing to do, or who, among the all the players, is the best batter.

But the primary sporting passion of Cubans is not exempt from politics, especially when some baseball superstar decides not to return home after a trip abroad, or if a player is not chosen to play at an international event because he is feared to be unreliable and at risk of “deserting.” At a recent match-up between two teams of ardent rivals, one player was offended because he thought that the ball had been thrown with the intention of hitting him, and to the surprise of the spectators, he ran after the pitcher swinging his bat. The players emptied the bench, some fans dived into the fray, and the police made generous use of their pepper spray and batons, with a few kicks thrown in for good measure. The official cameras broadcasting the game were turned away from the melee, and not a single TV viewer knew what had happened… at that time.

But the new technologies foiled the prudish censor, as dozens of digital cameras and cell phones filmed every detail. That version of events was distributed to thousands of people on CDs and flash memories. And what great discussions we had in the parks, then!

  1. just returned from Cuba and saw this footage on a friends computer…a few days later we helped pass it on with a flash drive..haha..its funny to see it now up on this blog…it was amazing to me how much information is passed along this way.

  2. What debate?
there is no formal consideration of opposing points been postulated for a constructive purpose.
This is a monologue carried by an abusive, arrogant individueal w/the belief that he/shee “owns” the truth.
I think this is the chosen outlet for his/her mental masturbation.
He/she is led by simple people from point to point, made to answer point by point.
    Manipulated to his/her own ridicule.
    He/she is sooo clever.

  3. M. piñeiro losada,

Dont pain the Cuban diaspora with a single-propaganda-Batista brush! It might help your defemation strategy but most sane people reading this blog will see what this is about! DIVERTING THE FOCUS OFF “LA CHINA” & “THE MUMMY” FOR THEIR CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY! I KNOW THAT SOMEDAY THEY WILL BE CHARGED WITH THOSE CRIMES RAT!

  4. Humberto:

Good point and that’s why I’m here, too.

To everyone who is here because they’ve heard allegations of “repression in Cuba,” I strongly encourage you to read through the debate that has taken place here and on several other posts. This web blog has, though the attention focused on it by the capitalist media, a battleground of ideas.

I think that any rational person will be able to see that on one side, there is a narrative that makes a lot of sense: the revolutionary government of Cuba overthrew an unquestionably brutal military dictatorship in 1959 (the Batista Regime).

The soldiers, torturers, prison guards and hyper-wealthy supporters of Batista fled to Miami and founded the Miami Cuban exile community. This community has worked hand-in-hand with the CIA and cocaine cartels to fund and manage a 50+ year war against the tiny island government of Cuba.

Cuba’s main crime is that they have broken from the “free market ideology” of putting profits above the well-being of human beings. Their Constitution guarantees all human beings the right to education, health care, shelter, food, freedom of speech & assembly and, although Cuba is a poor, third-world country that has had to divert a lot of funds into military defense, they’ve done a very good job of meeting these goals.

Cuba has put a handful of “dissidents” in jail — but these are not your normal dissidents. They are violent collaborators with the world’s largest military superpower and an exile community which openly admits to carrying out acts of terrorism against Cuba: bombing hotels, “commando operations” to sabotage and kill civilians in an attempt to destabilize the society, “drive-by operations” where they cruise the Cuban coastline in speedboats and spray machine guy fire at whomever happens to be there.

At any rate, this is all well-explained in these discussions. I think you will find the arguments in defense of Cuba to be rational, well-researched and documented with facts. And, I think you will find that the counter-arguments, for the most part, ignore the facts that have been presented and are mostly sloganeering, threats and insults.

Please, evaluate it all for yourself. I’ve been posting these arguments around the internet so that more people can come and see for themselves.

  5. YES MR. “REVOLUTIONARY RAT”! BUT FORTUNATELY IM HERE NOT FOR YOUR PLEASURE BUT FOR THOSE WHO READ AND ARE ACTIVE IN THIS BLOG AND NOT YOU!

  6. Humberto: No, you just mindlessly re-copy AP wire stories over and over again. You don’t really seem to be able to join in the conversation or have any thoughts or analysis of your own.

You don’t “put a link to your comments” … your comments ARE the link. Haha. You guys are too easy, really.

  7. YOU ARE WELCOME “REVOLUTIONARY RAT”!LET THE PEOPLE READ FOR THEMSELVES AND MAKE UP THEIR OWN MIND. I USUALLY PUT A LINK TO ALL MY COMMENTS UNLIKE YOURSELF! WHY DONT YOU PUT A LINK ON ALL THE DIAREAH YOU WROTE ON YOU LAST POST? WOULD LOVE TO CHECK OUT YOUR SOURCES SINCE YOU ARE SUCH THE “INTELECTUAL/JUURNALIST”, THAT WAY WE CAN BE IN AWE OF YOUR INCREDIBLE BRAIN!

  8. Freedom Rings, you write:

“The ESTEFAN family are good people and I’m glad you have so much hate and odio feelings. That should give you an ulcer or a heart attack so you can just die.”

Ahahaha. You accuse me of being filled with hate and then go on to wish that I die. Very convincing… you must be part of the “peace-loving Miami exile community.” Hahaha.

As for the Estefans, if *my* father was a bootlicking thug for a banana republic dictator who is condemned in every single history book (right-wing or left-wing) and was responsible for murdering, torturing and imprisoning thousands of innocent people, I would speak out against Batista, not continue trying to create a new Batista-style capitalist dictatorship, a half-century after it was rejected by the Cuban people.

Today a group of people met in New York to Support las Damas de Blanco and again a new group will assemble on the West coast of this Great Nation in Los Angeles.

WOW! It’s growing like wildfire! Of course, in both New York and Los Angeles, there are already dozens of support and solidarity organizations for the Cuban Revolution, for the Cuban Five (examples of REAL political prisoners), not to mention CISPES, FMLN, Hands Off Venezuela and it isn’t just in those two cities … they are represented all over the world, in every major city you can think of.

Even the younger generation of the Miami exile community think that their parents and grandparents are lunatics. There is less and less support for fanatic attacks against Cuba in Miami. Miami kids these days are ashamed of the legacy of terrorism that they’ve inherited and many of them support the end of the blockade, end of travel restrictions and normalization of relations with socialist Cuba.

Everyone should find a way to send cameras and computer equipment to Cuba so that the general population get a chance to express themselves and keep fresh images in the free press.

This shows just how clueless you are. The left-wing and socialist groups in the US and Europe have been doing this for YEARS.

In fact, the neanderthal terrorist group Alpha 66 attacked a Pastors for Peace caravan headed for Cuba as an act of civil disobedience, in defiance of the blockade, and among the donations of medicine and other essentials were laptops, computers, wireless cards, routers/hubs and lots more technology equipment to help set up public telecentros (like they’ve been building in Venezuela and Brazil and Ecuador and etc).

Your comrades, Alpha 66, told Pastors for Peace that they “wouldn’t reach Cuba alive”. As Pastors for Peace was traveling south on Highway 101 towards Mexico (en route to Cuba), they were ambushed by a group of lunatics from Alpha 66 and had to fight them off.

Also, Cuba is one of the key players in the open source & free software phenomenon happening in Latin America … the software which runs 90% of the internet … Cuba has already released its own Linux distribution, a bunch of medical device drivers for medical equipment, education games for children, and so on.

The fact that socialist groups have been working since at least the 90s to bring internet & telecom equipment to Cuba should clue you in as to how far off you are about your understanding of the situation.

If the Miami exile community keeps supporting dictators, terrorists and fanatics, they’ll continue to become more and more irrelevant to the future.

  9. The ESTEFAN family are good people and I’m glad you have so much hate and odio feelings. That should give you an ulcer or a heart attack so you can just die. The Estefan’s are rich today because of their hard work and talent, NO OTHER REASON. MPL your just a socialist looser beating your own drum to a failed beat. The ISLAND of Cuba in in Shambles cause its leaders have sacked every industry that existed prior to the robolution and done little in the last 50 yrs of control. Today a group of people met in New York to Support las Damas de Blanco and again a new group will assemble on the West coast of this Great Nation in Los Angeles. Now also famous Columbian singer Shakira is also lending support against the abuse and lack of liberties that exist in Cuba today. Everyone should find a way to send cameras and computer equipment to Cuba so that the general population get a chance to express themselves and keep fresh images in the free press.

  10. Humberto:

Haha, thank you for the reference. If you can read, you can see that what I’ve written about Gloria Estefan is confirmed by Wikipedia, which lists other sources that also confirm what I’ve written.

In case people are just coming into the discussion, what I’ve written is:

    1) Gloria Estefan’s father was a personal bodyguard of Fulgencio Batista, considered by every objective human rights observer as being one of Latin America’s cruelest dictators, responsible for killing, torturing and imprisoning thousands of people who were working for social justice in Cuba.

    2) When the people of Cuba overthrew the Batista dictatorship, Gloria Estefan’s family fled the island, went to Indiana and then moved to Miami.

    3) Once Gloria Estefan’s family had been re-located to Miami, her father worked with the CIA and the Cuban exiles to illegally invade Cuba. The invasion was defeated by the Cuban people and Gloria Estefan’s father was captured and put in prison for participating in this illegal act. After a year, though, Cuba released her father and he fled (again) for Miami.

    4) Gloria Estefan’s father went to Vietnam with the U.S. Army (whether or not he was still working with the CIA is unknown). While fighting in Vietnam, he was exposed to one of the chemical weapons used against the NVA, Agent Orange. This exposure made him very sick and he died an early death in 1980. This is not unusual — many Vietnamese civilians still experience birth defects and high cancer rates because of the chemical weapons used by the US military.

    5) Gloria Estefan has said that she was approached by the CIA to work for them — ostensibly, because she could speak Cuban-dialect Spanish and English and her family had a long history of supporting the Batista capitalist military dictatorship, which the US had also supported. She says that she turned them down but, had she accepted their offer, she would have to deny it anyway.

    6) Shortly after this, her group (“Miami Sound Machine”) was “lucky” enough to sign with a major recording label and she was on her way to becoming the celebrity that she is today.

    7) To this day, she maintains her family’s anti-Cuba politics and recently organized a march against the Cuban Revolution. Known terrorist Luis Posada Carriles participated in the march. Luis Posada Carriles is known for openly admitting his involvement in terrorist attacks against the Cuban people, including a string of recent hotel bombings which maimed and injured a number of Cuban civilians and killed an Italian tourist.

Thank you, Humberto, for confirming what I’ve been saying and providing a link to more information about it. We see, once again, the connection between the anti-Cuba Miami exile community and terrorists, torturers and dictators.

  11. LETS PUT THIS MATTER TO THOSE READING THIS BLOG! HERE IS THE LINK AND SEE IF THEY SEE WHAT YOU CLAIM! EASY ENOUGH!

    Gloria Estefan- Wikipedia

    Early life and family
Gloria María Milagrosa Fajardo was born September 1, 1957 in Havana, Cuba, to Jose and Gloria Fajardo. Her maternal grandfather, Leonardo Garcia, emigrated to Cuba from Pola de Siero, Asturias, Spain, where he married Gloria’s maternal grandmother, originally from Logroño, Spain.[4][5] Prior to the Cuban Revolution, Her father was a Cuban soldier and a bodyguard to Cuban dictator, Fulgencio Batista. Shortly after they moved to the United States Gloria’s father joined the US military and fought in the Vietnam War, later also participating in the failed Bay of Pigs invasion. The Fajardo family fled to Lafayette, Indiana as a result of the Cuban Revolution, eventually settling down in Miami, Florida. Gloria attended St. Michael-Archangel School[6] and Our Lady Of Lourdes High School in Miami. She went on to graduate in 1979 with a B.A. in Psychology, with a minor in French, from the University of Miami.[7][8] When she was studying at university, she had worked as an English/Spanish/French translator at Miami International Airport Customs Department and, because of her language abilities, was once approached by the CIA as a possible employee.[9][10]

  12. Gloria Estefan: Her Father Supported the Brutal Batista Regime; She Marches Alongside Known Terrorist Luis Posada Carriles

What MOST people don’t know about Gloria Estefan (because the “capitalist free press” just happens to “forget” her history) is that her father was a strong supporter and personal bodyguard of Fulgencio Batista. As an enemy of the Cuban people, her family fled to the United States when the cruel Batista regime was overthrown.

Her father worked with the CIA, participated in the illegal invasion of Cuba at the Bay of Pigs, went on to volunteer to “kill commies” in the Vietnam War and, in the ultimate irony, eventually died of the illegal chemical weapon that was used against North Vietnamese guerrillas by the U.S. Army.

Following in her father’s footsteps, Gloria Estefan marched alongside known terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, who has been identified by the FBI as a terrorist who worked for the CIA in their illegal war against Cuba and who openly admitted in an interview that he was responsible for targeting tourists and Cuban civilians in a string of hotel bombings in Havana:

“It was led by Cuban-American pop star Gloria Estefan and organized, before the release of Obama’s written statement, in support of the Ladies in White.

A Reuters photographer spotted Cuban exile and former CIA operative Luis Posada Carriles among the participants in the march. He has a long history of violent opposition to Fidel Castro, the former Cuban leader.”
    http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE62O4LE20100326

It runs in the family. Her father supported a butcher dictator who killed, tortured and imprisoned thousands of Cubans fighting for social justice and Gloria Estefan now marches alongside terrorists who, like Al-Qaeda, intentionally target civilians in bombing campaigns and airplane hijackings. Luis Posada Carriles was involved in the bombing of an Air Cubana airliner and now he roams about freely in the Miami Cuban exile community, a “hero” who indiscriminately bombs innocent people.

  13. NO BUDDY,YOU ARE THE ONE THAT NEEDS TO SHOW PROOF OF THIS TYPE OF SLANDER AND NOT JUST FROM THE DIARREAH COMING OUT OF YOUR MOUTH.

Proof of WHAT? Everything I posted about Gloria Estefan is public knowledge. Just go look at the Wikipedia entry on her… it confirms EVERYTHING I said and it cites other sources.

Sorry for you, once again you have been challenged with facts and you crumble. Hahaha, it really is sad.

Not ONE FACT I have ever posted here has EVER been successfully challenged by the anti-Cuba fanatics on here. Not one.

The anti-Cuban exile community has such a cult-like atmosphere that you all have accepted this garbage on faith and can’t deal with someone challenged you with facts, history, sources, evidence.

Thank you, all, for being excellent examples of everything that is wrong with the anti-Cuba mafia.

I can’t WAIT until the travel ban is lifted by the Democrats. Everybody I know is going to Cuba to enjoy a beautiful vacation on a beautiful socialist island. We can even go and counter-protest the terrorist-affiliated “Ladies in White”!

  14. “We’ve been hearing this same prediction for 80 years” said Vladimir Posner Soviet mouthpiece in 1989 when confronted with the prediction of the downfall of the criminal communist empire. Nothing lasts forever, especially failed experiments propped up by tyranny and repression. The castros will join the ash heap (dung heap) of history along with all the other failed and murderous dictators, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Hitler, Mussolini…

  15. M. piñeiro losada,

“Humberto or whoever — I challenge you to find ONE FALSEHOOD that I put in my mini-biography of Gloria Estefan. Just one stated fact that isn’t true.”

NO BUDDY,YOU ARE THE ONE THAT NEEDS TO SHOW PROOF OF THIS TYPE OF SLANDER AND NOT JUST FROM THE DIARREAH COMING OUT OF YOUR MOUTH.

HERE THEY ARE AGAIN,THE “REVOLUTIONARY RATS” TRYING TO CHANGE THE SUBJECT OR SMEAR A GREAT ARTIST AND HUMANITARIAN! RAT! YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT HER FATHER BEIGN BATISTA’S BODYGUARD AND PART OF THE BAY OF PIGS BUT THAT IS IT! THE REST IS “PURA MIER*A”! THIS TYPE OF SLANDER JUST SHOW HOW DEPERATE “LA CHINA” & “THE MUMMY” ARE TO DIVERT THE ATTENTION OF PEOPLE IN THIS BLOG FROM THEIR VIOLENCE AND LOW MORALS BY USING THE “CHUSMA” TACTIC!

  16. The end of a repressive Dictatorship is near.

Hahahah, we’ve been hearing this same prediction for more than FIFTY YEARS now. The Cuban Revolution is going anyway except expanding through the Bolivarian Revolution. I know you all are in denial, but:

    1) The Cuban Revolution has more allies in Latin America than EVER before in history,

    2) Heads of state in literally more than a dozen Latin American countries have aligned themselves with the Cuban Revolution and been elected by the people over and over again,

    3) The US Democratic Party is about to use their current Congressional majority to repeal the travel ban on Cuba and tourists from the United States are going to pump BILLIONS of US dollars into Cuba, making the Cuban Revolution even stronger

This is the reality of what’s happening in the world. Meanwhile, all of you are PROUD about some one-hit-wonder 80s hack whose family supported the vicious Batista dictatorship and openly ties the Miami exile community to terrorists.

  17. Mr. RED BEARD
Is another, Fascist working for his Propaganda Department
based in Havana Cuba, and doing and of course also defending his job of desinforming people about the real situation of the Cuban People under a Fascist Regime as Mr. Castro’s. What do you expect from him !! Talks like a fascist, writes like a fascist, sounds like a fascist….of course He is a Fascist !!!

  18. M. pineiro losada, YOU ARE A “TONTO UTIL” as posted prior. CUBA and its lack of HUMAN RIGHTS is BIG NEWS. The end of a repressive Dictatorship is near. The represive acts towards LAS DAMAS DE BLANCO and the family of Zigler-Amaya in Pedro Betancourt provincia Matanza , is classic abuse from the CASTRO Dictatorship. The recent pictures from the Hospital in Mazorra is also shameful. Cuban people deserve better and a more humain treatment. M. pineiro Losada oviously not your real name as you are a coward and a descarado defending a failed regime that ready to POP. Cuba should have another concert where Cuban musicians like LOS ALDEANOS, Silvito el libre, Gorki and Porno para Ricardo, and Pablo Milanes could play to the general public. That would be very interesting and the end to the abuse in Cuba.

  19. Who is raising these FASCISTS again !???
RED BEARD is burning in Hell long time ago.
Well, we have one of the demons talking PROPAGANDA on his behalf !!!
    hehehehehehehehe.
    L
    for LOOOOOOOSSSSEEEERRRRSSSSS
Even your close friend are taking distance from you Tropical Fascists !!
    Guess what !!!
I have another history for you guys
this one is about VILMA ESPIN GUILLOIS
    Listen Ladies and Gentlemen.
Mr. Castro sent Vilma Espin to meet with Fran Pais against Frank’s orders not to contact him because Batista police was all over after his hideout.
So Mr. Castro the Capo of Tutti di Capo knew that. Once Vilma Espin visited with Frank, this very christian and charismatic young leader was killed by the police so Castro got rid of a political competitor using this kind of trick.
Mr. Castro also assessinated other Cuban Hero, Camilo Cienfuegos first and then his body guard Cristinito Naranjo in order to avoid possible proof in a possible investigation. That’s how Castro got rid of the real democratic leaders in Cuba. Now the Pirates of the Information as Mr. Pineiro Losada [long time dead] are trying to kill a very decent human being like Emilio and Gloria Estefan by attacking their family history, so the fascists show their real face to rest of the world.

  20. Yoani en Español: A Platform for the Defense of Cuba

Wow, you guys have been right about one thing: I should have checked out the Spanish version of this blog a long time ago! What I did not realize is that all the attention that Yoani “suddenly” got after returning from Europe and “suddenly” winning a bunch of capitalist awards has drawn a large number of Cubans and Latin Americans to come to this blog and defend Cuba. This is the real story of Yoani’s blog … and one that the capitalist press probably did not expect. I’m thinking more and more of writing an article for the capitalist free press about this phenomenon.

To give you an example, here is my translation of the very first comment I saw. Pardon me in advance if I miss any idiomatic expressions … I know Portuguese much better than I know Spanish.

This comment is in reply to Yoani’s post about baseball:

In defense of Cuba from the Spanish-speaking version of this website:

MÁS “PERIODISMO” CHATARRA / MORE JUNK “JOURNALISM”
“One of the plans of of Yoani Sanchez is to smear Cuba and Cubans. Yoani carefully selects the negative and ignores the positive. And what is the result of this propaganda? All Cubans are crap/worthless except for the dissidents. The fact that the Cubans have been world champions and Cuban sports has been, for decades, on the same level as the “first world” is not relevant to her.

She insists on portraying Cubans as idiots and weak/submissive. She doesn’t respect popular culture and speaks of baseball fans with elitist contempt when she says “this group [...] didn’t talk about how to end dual currency nor were they reclaiming some lost (cheated) freedom/right.”

She also tries to sell Cuba as a hell of repression and violence: “the police sprayed mace, kicked and used their batons” … a statement made without any evidence to back it up.

Yoani should read some news wires about Latin America. The poor little thing seems to live on the moon and doesn’t know about the violence, repression, insecurity, alienation and lost rights going on since before she was born.”

It’s amazing! This random person draws the same conclusions that I do about Yoani … that her bias shows through in every post as she doesn’t really talk about what life is like in Cuba, she is only repeating the same tired Miami lobbyist talking points.

And, she reveals a naivete in her posts, as if this scuffle at a baseball game is “repression” … or how unarmed women trying to get resisters onto a bus is a savage “beating.” It’s as if she knows nothing of Latin American history … about the tens of thousands of people disappeared, tortured, assassinated or imprisoned just during Operation Condor, one slice of Latin America’s long history of repression under capitalist dictatorships. Like I say, these historical events make the Cuban Revolution look like pacifists!

  21. Hahaha.. another onslaught of great logic & reason from the Miami fanatics.

In response to paragraph after paragraph of documented facts from me, what is the response?

“MIAMI IS NICE” and cheap internet threats. What a joke.

Humberto or whoever — I challenge you to find ONE FALSEHOOD that I put in my mini-biography of Gloria Estefan. Just one stated fact that isn’t true.

Just to remind everyone, Gloria Estefan’s father WAS a personal (motorcade) bodyguard of the brutal dictator Fulgencio Batista, condemned all over the world from leftists like Allende to even US President John F. Kennedy.

Gloria Estefan’s father DID originally flee Havana, fearing retribution from the people he had repressed, and moved to Indiana … only to move to Miami shortly after to join in the illegal Bay of Pigs invasion.

He DID participate in the CIA-sponsored armed invasion of Cuba, the invasion WAS squashed by the Cuban people, he WAS taken prisoner and held for about a year, and he WAS released back to Miami.

He DID go to Vietnam to fight and, while he was there, he DID contract illnesses related to the US Army’s use of a weapon of mass destruction … a chemical weapon … a defoliant called Agent Orange.

Gloria Estefan DID say in an interview with People magazine that she was approached by the CIA to work with them and she DOES deny that she ever did, although all deep cover CIA operatives deny their involvement with the CIA.

It WAS shortly after this that her mediocre 80s cheese group, Miami Sound Machine, signed with a major label and started getting airplay, during a time when everybody knows the US music industry was all about introductions, who you know, connections (hell, it’s like that today, still).

And, it IS true that Gloria followed in her father’s footsteps in opposing the Cuban Revolution — using her convenient status as a consumerist superstar to help criticize the Cuban Revolution.

Now, tell me, Humberto, Sigmund, WHOEVER — what isn’t true about ANY of that?

You say: THE REST IS “PURA MIER*A”! and call it “SLANDER”. Okay. What part of it is untrue? What part of it is slander?

  22. The long list of murderous dictators is not limited to those on the right. Have you ever heard of stalin or pol pot. This list includes your beloved fidel and raul. how do you explain the fact that fidel was merely exiled instead of murdered as he has done to countless others who have merely voiced the displeasure with the fifedom/prison he has created on this island. You are merely a tool who is in love with the sound of those keyboard keys clickng as you stir the pot once again. do you really believe the crap you put out. Cuba is a democracy? how do you explain away the fact that that the prisoners on that island have no free will, cannot leave the country, open their own business, own their home or raise thei families the way they see fit. Give me a break. do you explain away all of theses restrictions as necessary and just, in exchange for free healthcare and literacy, which is a joke. how do you explain the economic apartied that exsist when citizens of Cuba can not stay in the swanky hotels reserved for tourists. fidel and raul have transformed Cuba into the laughing stock of the world. but the day will come when you and them can no longer blame the U.S with all the ills of the world.

  24. M. PiNEIRO LADA, you, JUAN, “Walter Lippman”, and Terry “Cheers” from TRAVEL ADVISOR are the only “boot lickers”, I know. Actually now its PAMPER SMELLERS. Most here will refer to you as TONTO UTIL. Cuba has world exposure today cause of how the Government treats its people. Thanks for reading these Blogs and enlightning yourselves. Your “javita” is ready, its loaded with 1 soap and a rolito of bread. If your still hungry the best Cuban sandwich are found here on the streets of Miami and you can have one too. Thanks everyone who care about the Civil rights of others. People like Fidel and Raul belong in HELL.

  25. Haha, I told you my purpose: to speak truths about Cuba that english-speakers don’t often get to here because the “capitalist free press” is a joke.

Batista (the man who is secretly honored amongst the Miami Cuban exile community) is known the world over as a corrupt butcher and, even in Miami, you can’t openly come out in support of him. However, there are Cuban Revolution support groups in every major city in the world, ESPECIALLY in Latin America.

Gloria Estefan comes from a families of Batista supporters … in fact, people who directly worked for the dictatorship and, in essence, still do. The US rewards subservience to capitalist dictatorships with money, like a cheesy music career in Hollywood.

Whether or not Gloria Estefan works directly for the CIA (like her father did) is not known. What is known is that the CIA worked with her family, she openly admits being approached by the CIA, and anyone who works with the CIA doesn’t admit it. So, who knows? The point is she comes from a lineage that benefited from the Batista dictatorship and the repression of millions of Cubans.

Usually, when someone benefits directly from a dictatorship, they don’t oppose the people who overthrew him. Gloria Estefan is wrapped up in the Cuban exile world, where supporting Batista is ok.

It goes to tell a lot about the scumbags who run that community.

  26. The seven or so weeks fidel spent in the USA w/the purpose of generating funds for his planned invasion & overthrow of the batista goverment …
With the passage of time & comparing the situation castro would have been called a gusano, mercenary traitor.
batista & castro both got funds from outisde of cuba.
    Both took power by force.
“Legitimized” their grab for power “in the name of the people of Cuba”.
    Lied about their ambitions.
Repressed the cuban people in a criminal fashion.
The only thing left is for Spain to take hi/them … if he lives long enough …
    ha ha ha

  27. The glib fascist tripe infesting this forum is merely folllowing orders in his attempts at slandering Gloria Estefan. He follows in the footsteps of the truelly brilliant cuban ambassador to Bolivia who yesterday claimed Gloria is a mercenary and paid employee of the US government (she needs the money). The desperate statements are reaching the point of incredulity even to the most naive and misinformed. Gloria is an agent of the US government like Pedro Almodovar, Ana Belen, Pablo Milanes, Salvador Allende’s daughter the Presidents of Chile, Costa Rica etc. etc. etc. I can’t wait to see what the Joseph Goebbels wanna bes in Habana will come up with next. They are sowing the seeds of their own destruction.

  28. Concubino,

Who do you think brought information on political prisoners to the “Cubans in LA” group? THE AVALANCHE!Been all over the screening of “Oscar’s Cuba” and now the demonstration “Hunger for Change” on sunday with Andy Garcia. I hear from a friend that George Lopez and Eva Langorian will also attend. And now for “THE REVOLUTIONARY RAT” M. piñeiro losada! “I just know how to work the internet better than you guys do :)”. 12 Hour Fast
Amnesty International prisoner of conscience Orlando Zapata Tamayo, an Afro-Cuban human rights activist, died two weeks ago in a Cuban jail after enduring an 80+ day hunger strike. In response, multiple prisoners of conscience – including Guillermo Farinas – have initiated hunger strikes that have received international attention. Fast for 12 hours to demonstrate true solidarity.

    Hunger for Change Demonstration
On March 17th, in the midst of seven days of commemorations marking the 7th anniversary of the Black Spring that summarily imprisoned 75 of their relatives, the Ladies in White were forcibly dragged and carried on to buses by state security to prevent their march. To mark the end of our 12 hour fast, we’ll march around Echo Park, echoing the Ladies in White by wearing white, and carrying flowers and images of the 75. The march will begin and end at the Jose Marti Statue.

    Facebook & Twitter
Viral messages are the fastest way to spread information. Change your profile picture on Sunday 3/28 to that of Orlando Zapata Tamayo or the Ladies in White. Update your Facebook status & Twitter feeds with this message: “Today, I’m fasting in solidarity with the Cuban people who hunger for change.”

    Spread the Word
The power of Hunger for Change lies in spreading information about what’s happened and demonstrating solidarity with those involved. The more people know, the less willing the Cuban government is to continue repressing those in Cuba who dare to speak their own beliefs.
